The 8th Annual Rocks Off Concert Cruise series is already underway and we'll be seeing Black 47 on Friday July 25. For the uninitiated, Black 47 has practically defined the New York Irish and Irish-American experience in their songs over the last 15 years or so and has developed an international following with their intense, high-energy live sets.
We'll get to see them aboard the Half Moon, which will leave from the Skyport Marina at 23rd Street & FDR Drive, head south along the East River and pass underneath the 3 major bridges (Williamsburg, Manhattan and Brooklyn) before cruising through NY Harbor with nighttime views of the Statue of Liberty and the city skyline. We should also have a good view of some of these waterfall sculptures that are up on city waterways this summer. The band plays on the upper level of the boat while there's a full bar and food for sale on the lower level.
Boarding starts at 7 p.m., departure is at 8 and the cruise lasts until 11. For those who are interested in meeting up before the cruise, we will meet for drinks, and food if there's time, at one of the most traditional Irish pubs in New York: Molly's Pub & Restaurant, Shebeen, at 287 3rd Ave., about a 10-minute walk from the marina, starting at 5:30.
Advance tickets are NO LONGER AVAILABLE. You may still be able to buy tickets at the dock for $30 if you want to chance it. Let me know if you still want to go, we may have extra tickets left in the group.

“ Larry Kirwan may be getting up there and a lot of the faces in the band have changed since I last saw them in '95, but still a great live band. They played most of the old classics and the newer material wasn't all that bad. Great to see so many people come out for the Meetup too, even though it was difficult to all hang out together on the boat. ” -
